About me

Hi! I’m Sam Tinkley. I’m a filmmaker who really enjoys working with cameras, photography, visual effects, and editing. I love being part of the filmmaking process and bringing ideas to life, and I’m always looking to keep learning and developing my skills in the industry.

I’ve edited a range of short films and creative projects, working confidently across Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve to bring ideas to life through thoughtful editing and visual storytelling. Alongside this, I’ve spent the last few years developing my skills in 3D visual effects using Blender, learning first-hand both the creative freedom and the technical challenges that come with VFX work.

While I enjoy post-production, I’m equally at home on set. I’ve always loved the practical, hands-on side of filmmaking, and picking up a camera has been my natural way of expressing that passion. I have experience working with systems including ARRI Alexa, Sony FX-series cameras, and RED, and I enjoy collaborating closely with others to help bring a project together.

I graduated with First Class Honours in Film and Television Production (BSc) from the University of York, where I specialised in 3D visual effects. My final dissertation project focused on combining CGI with live-action cinematography, allowing me to merge my interests in VFX and camera work into a single creative project.

Alongside my own filmmaking, I also work as a behind-the-scenes photographer, capturing and editing high-quality stills for other directors’ sets. I enjoy documenting the filmmaking process and creating images that help promote and celebrate the work happening on set.

I currently work at Brownian Motion at Pinewood Studios as a Camera Technical Trainee, where I help build and prepare camera arrays used on film shoots. This role has given me a deeper understanding of camera technology and the level of precision required behind the scenes on large-scale productions, as well as valuable exposure to the technical side of the industry.

Although I’m still early in my career, I try to take something new from every project I work on. I really value meeting new people, collaborating with others, and learning from those around me. Whether it’s experimenting with new techniques, working on set, or developing technical skills, I’m always looking for ways to grow and push my craft further.
